Some homes come with rather small kitchens and it’s always a struggle to fit everything in and make it look aesthetically pleasing as well. Having a tiny kitchen however, can be a great opportunity to create unique and pleasant looking spaces in the house, while ensuring the kitchen stays fully functional.

It is also important to remember that small kitchens should be kept relatively easy to clean and there should be no difficult to reach areas. This is also so that you don’t attract unwanted pests.

Here is how you can make your small kitchen look and feel more spacious:

1. Use light coloured paint to make the space look larger and try to keep the colour of the kitchen as monotonous as possible. If you must, use another colour that is equally light and bright

2. Choose long lines as patterns for wallpaper or cabinets will make the area look longer and taller. This can be extended to the design of the floor tiles as well.

3. Keep the colours of all your fixtures and furniture light as well. Opt for beige colours and off white table tops for a spacious finish

4. Keep away pots and pans, dried ingredients and cooking utensils in the cabinets and keep your counters clutter free.

5. Use cabinets with glass doors. This also lets you see through them easily to figure out what is where

6. Use reflective surfaces made of ceramic or glazed woods with a glossy finish. This shiny surface can extend to electrical appliances like refrigerators, kettles, ovens and toasters.

7. Make sure there are large windows in the kitchen where natural light can enter and illuminate the space.

8. Avoid too much pop of daring colours and make sure you stick to soothing schemes

9. Don’t put too much small decorations here and there as this will take up space.
