30 is usually the age when you're considered a true adult and you no longer feel the financial limitations of your twenties. Hence, you would be able to obtain some proper furniture and trappings for your home. 30 is also when most people settle down, get married and have a place of their own.
As such, you should be updating your home deco to fit your more sophisticated lifestyle. Here are some of the items you shouldn't be keeping from your university days:
1. Mattresses on the floor
It's really time to buy a proper bed or bed frame as laying your mattress on the floor can cause an accumulation of moisture which encourages the growth of mold and other germs.
2. Pop culture posters
If you're still keeping any posters of boy bands, old movies or your favourite actors from your college dorm, now is the time to let them go as yellowing posters that are curling at the edges look hideous. If you really can't part with it, frame it up in a proper wooden frame to give it a more elegant look.
3. Mis-matched Dining plates
Invest in some dinnerware sets so that you not only have dishes and plates for your own meals, but can have guests over as well. There really is no need to keep the awkward mix of single pieces around.
4. Threadbare towels
Throw away old towels that are so thin you are beginning to see through them. Additionally, towels that are yellowed, stained and smelly should go as well. Buy new fluffy towels, and while you're at it, get some tea towels for your kitchen too.
5. No more juvenile lamps
Shop for some modern lights so that you don't have to use that lava lamp, glow in the dark stars or that cute turtle light you got four your 18th birthday. Add some style with stainless steel modern lamps.
6. Tiny Area Rugs
Rather than using small rugs of various colours that don't match, try buying one large carpet that is suitable with your living room sofa.
7. Floor Seating
As a homeowner, bean bags and floor cushions should no longer be your main seating. Instead, get a proper sofa set, either an L-shaped or a three seater.
8. Futons
Remember when futons were your main standby for friends who were crashing over, well now you have a proper guest bedroom, you can put that futon into storage.
