More Than 118,000 Houses For Civil Servants, Exceeding Target - Ali Hamsa
A total of 265 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Projects (PPA1M) involving 118,441 units of houses have been approved nationwide, which exceeds the target.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said the government would try to provide 200,000 units by the year 2018 -- far exceeding the original target of 100,000 units.
"There is a strong demand from civil servants. We revised the target from 100,000 to 200,000 units so that more civil servants can own homes," he said at the handing over ceremony of offer letters and get together for PPA1M Residensi Bayu Andaman, Bandar Sentul Utama, here today.
In Kuala Lumpur city alone, Ali said, there were 15,172 units of PPA1M which had been approved for development, including the Residensi Bayu Andaman project.
The project was being developed by Kumpulan Melati Ehsan on a 2.71-acre site of which 200 units were being built with government subsidy, while another 400 units were being sold in the open market.
Ali told reporters that handing over of the keys for the first phase of the PPA1M project in Putrajaya involving 4,000 units was expected to be held during the first quarter of next year.
He said the government would look for more suitable land especially in the Klang Valley to meet the housing needs of civil servants working in the federal capital.
He said the PPA1M was proof that the government was serious in resolving the problem of civil servants especially the lower and middle-income group in acquiring their own home.
