Penang to keep on building affordable units
The Penang government has built 20,887 low-cost (LC) and low medium-cost (LMC) units through both state and private initiatives.

State Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said the affordable units (11,487 LC and 9,400 LMC) were built between 2008 and last year.

He said the state had also given approval to 110 applications for 16,401 more LC units and 12,820 more LMC units to be built.

“We will ensure that developers continue to build LC and LMC units here,” he said after witnessing the key handover ceremony for residents at the newly completed Idaman Selasih in Sungai Ara on Saturday.

Idaman Selasih is an LC and LMC housing project by Ideal Property Group comprising two 36-storey blocks containing 956 units.

Construction began in 2015 and the developer received the Certificate of Completion and Compliance on Nov 24 last year.

Ideal Property Group chief operating officer Goh Teng Whoo said they had delivered more than 1,500 LC and LMC units to the state.

“We are now building 3,500 more affordable units in Penang. Construction is underway and going according to schedule.

“We are always ready to complement the state in building more affordable homes to fulfill the people’s needs,” he said.

Present at the key handover ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Ideal Property Group general manager Kathryn Liang, Koperasi Tunas Muda Sungai Ara Berhad senior manager Rozali Baharuddin and Koperasi Tunas Muda Sungai Ara Berhad property manager Zulkiflee Salleh.
