"PASIR PUTEH: The Kelantan government should be responsible for its failure to build permanent homes for more than 1,800 flood victims who lost their houses due to the massive floods last December.

Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) president Datuk Ibrahim Ali said although it had been five months since the floods occurred, only a few victims now lived in new homes.

""A large number of them are still situated in camps and staying with relatives,"" he told reporters after visiting the family of the late Nor Atikah Alias in Kampung Bukit.

Nor Atikah, a final-year medical student at the Russian National Research Medical University in Moscow died in the intensive care unit of the Sklifosovskogo Hospital after she suffered 30% burns to her face, hands and feet due to a fire at her dormitory on April 22.

Ibrahim said the federal government should not be blamed as it already provided adequate provision for the construction of permanent homes.

However, he noted, the state government failed to provide sufficient land which was under its jurisdiction.

""The funny thing is, when they (Kelantan government) face disasters, the federal government becomes their focus and hope ... but when choosing a government, they elect a government that is unable to help them,"" he added.

Ibrahim said this included more than 500,000 generation-Y voters who sought a living outside Kelantan, especially in the Klang Valley, who upon returning home even influenced their parents into voting for the opposition.

""I am worried that when Malaysia becomes a developed country by 2020, Kelantan will be the poorest state in the country."" – Bernama"
