KUALA LUMPUR: You can now take public transport to 18 places of worship of all faiths around the Klang Valley.

Masjid Jamek Pekan in Sungai Buloh is a seven-minute walk from the Sungai Buloh MRT station.

Commuters can also board MRT feeder buses T102 and T103 to reach the mosque in under five minutes.

If you alight at the Pasar Seni MRT station via the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT line, there is also a 129-year-old Taoist temple five minutes’ walk away.

Situated opposite the Guan Ti temple, about 40m away, is the Sri Maha Mariamman temple which is known to be one of the oldest Hindu temples in Kuala Lumpur.

Guan Ti devotee Low Zi Hoe, 31, said the MRT line would significantly reduce parking issues in the area as there were insufficient parking bays available for devotees of both temples.

“With all the parking problems I faced before, I had to rely on friends and family to drop me off at the temple. Hopefully now, I need not trouble anyone and can just use the MRT,” he said.

Frequent public transport user Roz Ariffin said that with the MRT, he could easily take a ride to Masjid Jamek.

“With the MRT now, our light rail connection is almost complete. I can be connected to anywhere I want to go, which includes going to the mosque,” he added.

Kota Damansara resident Janaki Muthuraman, 43, who frequents the Sri Maha Mariamman temple, is thankful for the MRT as she no longer has to endure traffic jams.

“It has always been a hassle to drive to the temple because I had to spend so much on petrol, getting stuck in the traffic jam.

“There is also limited parking space to accommodate devotees, especially during major festivals like Thaipusam,” she said.

Sidang Injil Borneo Kuala Lumpur parishioners can now take the MRT or LRT to the Phileo Damansara MRT station, which is a seven-minute walk from the church.
