PETALING JAYA: A contractor of the East Klang Valley Expressway has been ordered to improve silt prevention measures at a construction site near Ampang Water Treatment plant.

It was reported that silt from the site was being washed into the nearby Sungai Ampang, which leads to the water treatment plant.

Selangor Environment, Green Technology, Tourism and Indigenous Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian said the problem still persisted despite the use of geotextiles to protect the soil on the site.

However, he noted the pollution level was as serious to require the water treatment plant to shut down this year.

"The maximum reading at the Ampang water treatment plant inlet was 700NTU(Nephelometric Turbidity Unit). Closure is only required when the reading reaches 1,000NTU," he said.

Hee said the contractor has been given two months to improve their measures or action will be taken.
