The ringgit opened lower as traders shifted their interest to the greenback, dealers said.
At 9.05am, the ringgit was quoted at 3.7430/7465 to the US dollar from 3.7300/7340 yesterday.
A dealer said the positive housing data and a jump in the treasury yields supported the US dollar.
Meanwhile, against other basket of currencies, the ringgit also traded mostly lower.
It fell against the Singapore dollar to 2.7996/8026 from 2.7984/7031 yesterday and weakened against the euro to 4.2423/2474 from 4.2302/2351.
Versus the British pound, the local note remained at yesterday’s 5.9199/9277 from 5.9199/9266 and compared to the yen, it improved to 3.0310/0346 from 3.0315/0358 yesterday.
