KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Civil servants incur losses amounting to more than RM50 million within the last 10 years due to the action of irresponsible housing developers.
Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS) president Datuk Azih Muda said the congress had received more than 1,000 complaints from civil servants on their predicament.
Some of them had paid high deposit of up to RM36,000 for the houses, and also those who have to pay monthly through salary deduction for the house, but there is no house.
"There are also a few who complained to the National Housing Department and was told that the housing developer had no licence,"he told a media conference at Wisma Cuepacs here Tuesday.
Azih said the government, especially the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry should look into the matter.
He said Cuepacs should be given a wider role in the matter, like to discuss the matter with the Finance Ministry.
On the tabling of the 2016 Budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in October, Azih said revenue collected by the government from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) should be utilised to help chiildren, the disabled people (OKU), senior citizens and the low income earners.
These four groups are the most affected with the increasing cost of living, he added.
The government, he said, should also expedite the improvement of 252 public service schemes and implementation of the RM1,200 minimum salary for civil servants to help them tackle the increasing cost of living.
