A bulk of the construction projects completed this year include residential and non-residential buildings, says DoSM
The local construction sector completed projects totaling RM89.9 billion for the first three quarters of 2022, representing a rise of 6.6 per cent from the corresponding period in 2021 (3Qs 2021: -2.1 per cent).

According to the Quarterly Construction Statistics, Third Quarter 2022 by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM), the industry completed construction projects totaling RM30.5 billion in the third quarter of 2022 (Q3 2022), compared to RM29.9 billion in Q2 2022.

DoSM said the growth of 23.2 per cent was contributed by the non-residential buildings (37.7 per cent), special trade activities (32.2 per cent), residential buildings (17.8 per cent), and civil engineering (14. per cent) subsectors.

Civil engineering continued to be the largest contributor with a share of 37.9 per cent in the value of completed construction work in Q3 2022.

Non-residential buildings came next at 30.4 per cent, residential buildings at 22.3 per cent, and special trades activities at 9.4 per cent.

DoSM said that the value of work completed by the private sector was RM18 billion, up 31.8 per cent (Q3 2022: 14.8 per cent), with a share of 59 per cent.

Selangor recorded the highest value of construction work done at RM6.9 billion, followed by the Federal Territories (RM5.3 billion) and Sarawak (RM3.6 billion) which collectively contributed 51.9 per cent or RM15.8 billion.
