MELAKA, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- State governments with land in strategic locations suitable for the People’s Residence Programme (PRR) can offer them the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT).

KPKT deputy secretary-general (housing and community wellbeing) Suhaimi Ali said through this offer, the federal government will make every effort to secure development funding without requiring the transfer of state government land to the
Federal Land Commissioner.

"This step aims to ensure that the housing construction process for the people in this country is streamlined and expedited, in line with KPKT’s commitment to ensuring that every house provided meets high standards in terms of comfort, safety, and livability.

"What is crucial is that the housing facilities built by the federal government are based on the MADANI principles, which include sustainability, creativity, confidence, well-being, respect and compassion," he said during his speech at the PRR key handover ceremony in Tangga Batu today, officiated by the state Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee senior chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.

He said that the ministy is planning to build 200 units of PRR housing in Bukit Katil next year. To date, the federal government, through KPKT, has implemented five PRR projects in Melaka, involving a total of 1,556 housing units.

Suhaimi noted that of this total, 600 units are being developed at PRR Krubong, 500 units at PRR Tehel, 336 units at PRR Sungai Putat, and 120 units at PRR Tangga Batu.

"Another project, PRR Klebang, which involves the construction of 255 units, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by 2025," he said.

He also advised prospective tenants or current tenants to maintain the cleanliness of their homes and surrounding areas to create a conducive neighbourhood surrounding, and expressed hope that tenants would take full advantage of the opportunity to own these residences and refrain from subletting them to third parties or turning them into homestays.

Meanwhile, Rais, at a press conference following the event, said the state government hopes to expand the Rent-to-Own scheme for PRR houses across all PRR developments in Melaka, allowing citizens to own homes rather than renting for extended periods.

He added that so far, only two PRR developments in Melaka, namely PRR Krubong and Tehel, have been approved to implement this scheme for the tenants involved.
