Sime Darby Property turns ERKC into green sanctuary
KUALA LUMPUR: Sime Darby Property Bhd has transformed the Elmina Rainforest Knowledge Centre (ERKC) in the City of Elmina into a sanctuary of nature and prosperity.

This is part of the company's Chinese New Year celebration at ERKC, which focuses on urban biodiversity, said chief marketing and sales officer Datuk Lai Shu Wei.

A key highlight of the festivities is a specially curated potted plant display, inspired by the Chinese character "fĂș," symbolising prosperity.

Lai said the event also includes a series of interactive weekend workshops on Feb 1, 8, and 15, offering hands-on experiences in nursery maintenance, seed propagation, and Citizen Scienctist activities. These sessions encourage visitors to learn about and participate in efforts to preserve Malaysia's rich biodiversity.

The celebration also features the release of a Chinese New Year short film, "Sowing the Seeds for Tomorrow's Prosperity."

"We are dedicated to integrating nature into the fabric of our townships, ensuring that biodiversity flourishes alongside urban development," said Lai.

Local resident Ho Kian Keong noted that the workshops provided valuable insights into tree planting and community conservation, while Nur Syafina from Setia Alam said the sessions were both educational and enjoyable for her family, deepening their understanding of the challenges in preserving native species.

The ERKC remains a vital part of Sime Darby Property's broader commitment to urban biodiversity and sustainable development in the City of Elmina.
