Belfield Tunnel opens, providing easy entry and exit to Menara Merdeka 118
KUALA LUMPUR: Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), through its subsidiary PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd (PMVSB), has officially inaugurated the Belfield Tunnel, providing a new access route to Menara Merdeka 118.
Stretching just over one kilometre, the Belfield Tunnel is Malaysia's second two-storey tunnel, designed exclusively for vehicles travelling to and from the iconic Merdeka 118.
Datuk Tengku Ab. Aziz Tengku Mahmud, chief executive officer of PMVSB, described the tunnel as a crucial link that will enhance accessibility to Merdeka 118 and its nearby landmarks, including Stadium Merdeka.
"Our goal is to provide a seamless and stress-free journey into the city, ensuring easier access for everyone. With ample parking for up to 8,000 cars, we look forward to welcoming people from all walks of life, from business professionals to shoppers and tourists, to experience all that Merdeka 118 has to offer once we are fully open," he said in a statement.
The Belfield Tunnel offers an alternative entry and exit point, improving traffic circulation and strengthening connectivity to Menara Merdeka 118, the world's second-tallest tower, while alleviating congestion on key city roads.
Accessible via Jalan Syed Putra and Jalan Damansara, the tunnel directs vehicles into basement car park 4 of Menara Merdeka 118. For departures, vehicles exit from basement car park 5 onto Jalan Syed Putra and Jalan Istana.
This strategic access is expected to ease congestion in the surrounding areas, particularly reducing traffic buildup around the Merdeka 118 precinct at Jalan Hang Jebat, Jalan Hang Tuah, and Jalan Maharajalela.
Additionally, the tunnel will serve visitors to Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur and 118 Mall, set to open in the second quarter of this year and by June 2026 respectively, providing smooth access to luxury hospitality and a vibrant retail experience.
