Melaka To Build 55,000 Affordable Houses Over Next Three Years
A total of 55,000 affordable homes will built in Melaka over the next three years, of which 25,000 will be developed by state agencies while the rest by private developers.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said so far, 14,635 of the houses were under construction, while the remaining units would be built in stages until end of 2018.

He said the affordable houses were currently being built in Lipat Kajang, Taman Pertam Jaya, Taman Bukit Larang, Taman Pokok Mangga, Pulau Melaka and Mukim Machap.

"They are at various stages of construction - from initial stages up to 99 per cent completion," he told reporters after the signing of a joint-venture proposal for the Mukim Macap affordable housing project between the Melaka Housing Board and Wawasan Intact Properties Sdn Bhd at Seri Negeri here today.

Melaka Housing Board executive director Saleh Mohd Dom signed on behalf of the state government, while Wawasan Intact Properties was represented by its director, Datuk Ng Choon Koon.

Melaka Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Othman was present.

Idris said the affordable housing schemes comprised terrace houses, apartments and town houses priced between RM42,000 and RM300,000.

He said according to the Khazanah Research Institute, house prices in Melaka last year were regarded as 'affordable' compared to that of other states.

With the signing of the agreement, Wawasan Intact Properties will take over the construction of 296 affordable houses and shophouses in Mukim Machap from Feb 1 and the project is set for completion by Dec 31, he added.
