New Housing Procedures To Be Implemented March 13 - DBKL

KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- New procedures on plans consideration, additional guidelines and house renovation will be implemented starting next Friday (March 13), said Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
He said all the residential development applications received by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) on or after that date would be processed according to the new procedure.
"For homeowners who have built a house without obtaining approval in writing by the One Stop Centre (OSC), they are reminded to submit plans for coordination and approval before June 30 this year.
"This is to avoid them from being imposed with notices and action by the authorities," he said when opening the 'Public Opinion Session: The New Balanced Procedures and Additional Guidelines and Changes In Residential Buildings' here, today.
It was held to introduce new improvements aimed to provide greater flexibility especially, in terms of adjustment for single-storey, double and three-storey terrace houses on lot size of not more than 18 feet wide and 65 feet long in Kuala Lumpur.
Ahmad Phesal said the procedure was not applicable for other residential types such as townhouses, cluster homes, detached houses, bungalows or houses under the stratified title ownership.
He said the implementation of the new procedures would benefit not only the City Hall, but also homeowners and stakeholders involved.
"Among the benefits are the expediting of the process of consideration and the decision on home renovation.
"The new procedures will also eradicate the middle man and corruption as the development of assessment criteria, and meeting dates and the results can be known directly," he said.
He said the speedy approval process could also prevent the occurrence of unauthorised construction at the site.
DBKL Department of Urban Design and Building deputy director Tumiran Sumari said the homeowner who did not adhered to the new procedure would be fined, but the compound amount or the type of penalty imposed was still under discussions.
