10,000 PR1MA Houses To Begin Construction By Year-End
The construction of 10,000 houses under the 1Malaysia Housing Project Corporation (PR1MA) in Penang is expected to begin by year-end, chief operating officer Datuk Aminuddin A. Manaf said.
He said Penang had the highest demand for affordable homes with about 88,000 applying for PR1MA housing but the projects were subject to approval from various authorities.
" We hope to start construction on 10,000 units by the end of this year, provided the state government fast-tracks our applications for planning approval on our projects here," he told reporters after a meeting with the Penang Federal Action Council, chaired by its chairman, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman here Thursday.
He said PR1MA was in the process to submit applications to the relevant authorities to build 19,556 units of houses throughout various areas in the state.
Aminuddin said of the number, PR1MA would build 1,124 units in Bukit Gelugor; Batu Ferringhi (1,520); Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau (9,564); Teluk Kumbar (3,944); Permatang Pauh (1,017); and, Tasek Gelugor (2,387).
" I believe the Bukit Gelugor and Teluk Kumbar projects will begin construction this year, subject to approval from the authorities and sales are expected to begin in line with the construction work, " he added.
He hoped the DAP state government would to approve all the PR1MA projects here as the houses built were meant for the middle-income group with affordable price.
However, Aminuddin said about 84 per cent of PR1MA's projects were priced below RM300,000; 14 per cent were between RM300,000 and RM350,000; and only two per cent priced at RM400,000 ".
