32,000 people-friendly homes built since 2002
Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has built more than 32,948 units of people-friendly homes (RMR) nationwide since 2002, Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan told the Dewan Rakyat.
He said to date, another 2,803 units of the RMR are in the process of construction throughout the country involving Felda land schemes and cluster villages.
"We received 74,022 applications. A total of 35,751 applications were approved…the rest were rejected because the household income of the applicants exceeded RM3,000 per month," he said when replying to a supplementary question from Azman Ismail (PKR-Kuala Kedah) on the construction of RMR and the issue of land ownership for the project.
The RMR construction according to states is Terengganu 4,702 units, Kelantan (4,812), Pahang (2,837), Perak (3,467), Penang (255), Kedah (4,150), Perlis (714), and Negeri Sembilan (2,683).
rumah mesra rakyatMeanwhile in Selangor there are 1,528 units, Melaka (1,689), Johor (4,402), Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur (9), Sabah (770), Sarawak (893), and the Federal Territory of Labuan (37), he said.
On the land ownership issue, Ahmad said discussions at the family level are necessary to ensure that construction of the houses could proceed smoothly.
Replying to the original question from Datuk Hasbullah Osman (BN-Gerik), on the government’s allocation for the construction of RMR, Ahmad said the government has given a subsidy of RM20,000 for each housing unit built.
