Govt needs help to achieve 1m affordable homes aim
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14:
Ideas and solutions are needed to help the government achieve its target to build one million affordable and comfortable housing for Malaysians, says Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) chief executive Datuk Seri Judin Abdul Karim.
He said the challenges faced by the government in achieving the target is cost, time and quality.
"CIDB has entered into a partnership with the Bayer Group of Company to draw up an affordable model housing project for which a memorandum of understanding in area of sustainable construction was signed last year," he said at a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of two prototype houses at CIDB's Industrialised Building Systems show village here today.
The collaboration would enable better access to Bayer's high technology in material science to build quality and affordable houses, especially for the low income group.
Judin said with the partnership, Malaysia would assume a key role as a hub for nurturing best expertise and technologies for affordable and sustainable housing.
The houses would be built on a 2,000 sq ft space and would be completed by October this year.
Bayer's affordable housing solutions is based on lightweight polyurethane composite panels which can be assembled easily and quickly with less work, hence saving both time and cost.
Bayer's solutions are customised to suit climate, landscape and requirements and can reduce cost of construction by 40%.
