Perak To Ensure Affordable Houses Do Not Exceed RM200,000
PARIT BUNTAR, May 18 (Bernama) -- The state government will amend its housing policy to set the price of affordable houses at not more than RM200,000, says Perak Women Development, Family, Community Welfare, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim.

She said at the same time, the amendment if passed, would also compel the construction of low-cost houses for each project developed in areas exceeding two hectares.

"At the moment, the matters being studied by the state land and mineral office depended on a specific area," she told reporters after opening a 'Townhall and Town Safety' programme, in conjunction with the Perak Menteri Besar District Retreat programme here Wednesday.

Rusnah said the policy amendments made were in line with the establishment of the Perak Housing and Property Board passed by the State Legislative Assembly last month.

"I have met Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) and 1Malaysia People's Housing (PR1MA) on their affordable housing projects costing RM300,000,"she said.

Rusnah said the state government was prepared to consider lower premium rates to reduce the cost of planning permission to enable SPNB and PR1MA to build their affordable houses at RM200,000.

On the 100 units of PR1MA houses in Parit Haji Wahab, she said interviews on buyers would be held soon and so far, 3,000 applications had been received.

On the programme today, Rusnah said the Townhall and Town Safety programme which began at the Ipoh City Council, was now being extended to the Kerian District Council.

"The programme will be implemented at all local authorities in Perak and conducted on a quarterly basis,"she said.
