Kelantan Facing Land Problem To Build Affordable Houses
TANAH MERAH, May 25 -- The Kelantan government may not be able to achieve its target of building 5,000 affordable houses by 2018 due to land problems, said State Local Government, Housing, Youth and Sport Committee chairman Datuk Ab Fattah Mahmood Wednesday.

He said this was because of problems in getting suitable land for the purpose.

"There is not many state-owned land in areas near towns, if there is, it is in the interiors.

"If we are to build the houses there, the state government will incur losses as the people will not be interested to buy since the place is far away from town," he told reporters after launching a model house of the Kelantan affordable housing project in Pasir Genda, Bukit Gading here.

He said a total of 3,000 affordable houses were being built in the state and that the project in Pasir Genda would involve 64 houses, scheduled for completion end of the year.
