BINA Darulaman Bhd’s (BDB) joint venture company with Menteri Besar Kedah Incorporated, BDBMBI Langkawi Ventures Sdn Bhd, will be developing an integrated commercial development project or “Premium Outlets” in Langkawi.

This premium outlet comprises business outlets, food and beverage outlets and recreational facilities to tourists as well as the local community.

According to BDB president and group CEO Faris Najhan Hashim (picture), the project, in collaboration with the Langkawi Development Authority, will be developed on 16.58ha of land in Padang Matsirat, which is adjacent to Langkawi International Airport.

“The project is divided into several phases, and BDBMBI will focus on the development of Phases 1 and 2 first with the gross development value amounted to RM817 million while the remaining phases are for future development,” Faris Najhan said in a statement yesterday.

Phase 1 development is known as ‘Malaysia Designer Outlets’ where local fashion outlets, fusion cuisine restaurants with an exclusive concept or ‘fine-dining’ as well as a ‘coffee house’ will begin its development next month and expected to be fully completed in July 2022.

This phase will also involve the construction of 37 business outlet units on an area of 1.65ha.

“In addition, it is estimated that some 100 job opportunities will be created at once to help revitalise the local economy and to this day, almost 90% of entrepreneurs around Langkawi and Peninsular Malaysia have confirmed their involvement for Phase 1,” he said.
