Tolls for eight more highways to go up next year

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 24-- Works minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof said toll rates for eight highways in the country would be adjusted upwards next year, or the government would have to shoulder some RM593.32 million in compensation to highway concessionaires.
There are eight highways that meet the requirement for toll rate adjustment in 2016 according to the contracts signed between the government and highway concessionaires, he said.
These eight highways are: North-South Expressway (RM214 million), Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (RM8.24 million), Elite Highway (RM79.44 million), Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (RM3.11 million), Seremban-Port Dickson Expressway (RM1.95 million), Kesas Highway (RM92.8 million), LDP (RM185.89 million) and the North Klang Straits Bypass Expressway (RM7.85 million).
He said LDP was only allowed to raise its toll rate by RM1 this year, and the rate would be reviewed again next year.
Additionally, Fadillah said 18 highways had earlier been allowed to raise their toll rates beginning October 15, and as such the government would still need to compensate the highway concessionaires for the period between January and October this year.
