KTM train service from Gua Musang to Tumpat to resume next year

KTM Intercity train services on the East Coast from Gua Musang to Tumpat are expected to resume in April next year.
KTM Berhad president Sarbini Tijan said the KTM is currently carrying out repair works which are expected to be completed by the end of March.
"If everything goes well the train services will resume in April. We are still waiting for work to be completed on the bridge at Kemubu," he said this morning after announcing the KTM Komuter new fares structure.
Sarbini said they are expecting to have four express trains and six shuttle trains operational by then.
He also said that they are going add a route from Johor Baharu Sentral to Tumpat.
"The government will be spending RM760 million for track rehabilitation and we will be adding four more new stations at Kuala Lipis, Manik Urai, Cegar Perah and Padang Tebrau," he said.
On July 1, The Malaysian Insider had reported that a spokesman had said all the necessary repairs to the East Coast route track had been completed recently, following the catastrophic flooding along the east coast of the peninsula last year.
“The track is ready. However, I cannot give an exact date when the train service to the east coast will resume until SPAD gives its approval.
“It is expected that SPAD officials will visit the railway track (east coast route), but safety comes first,” the spokesperson said.
He had also explained that once the service to the east coast resumed it could only go as far as Gua Musang station because that was as far as KTMB had got with repairs.
