Ringgit opens higher against US dollar in early trade
13 Jan 2016
The ringgit eked out a slightly better position against the US dollar at opening today, analysts said.
At 9 am, the ringgit traded higher at 4.3850/3920 against the greenback from yesterday’s closing of 4.4050/4100.
An analyst noted that despite worries over sluggish oil prices, which fell to a 12-year low at US$30.44 per barrel, the local unit still improved a little on positive sentiment in the China market.
“The risk-aversion mode among market players has softened at the moment and investors’ attention is still on the renmimbi fixing by the People’s Bank of China today,” he said.
The ringgit traded higher at the opening against a basket of currencies. It opened higher against the Singapore dollar at 3.0578/0641 from 3.0605/0644 from on Tuesday, and went up against the British pound to 6.3454/3567 from 6.4027/4117.
It rose against the yen to 3.7262/7329 from 3.7499/7545 and against the euro, improved to 4.7597/7680 from 4.7940/7003.
