The 10 Highest Power Consuming Electrical Appliances in Your Home
With all the recent price hikes, it is no wonder that Malaysians are desperate to find ways to cut spending and save on daily expenses. Cutting down on your electricity bill will definitely be one of the ways you can save costs. However, most people are clueless as to where to start.

The first step in cutting your energy usage is to know which one of your appliances consume the most energy. In this way, you will know how to regulate your own electricity usage. Apart from that, another useful tip is to unplug every appliance that is not in use so as to avoid them heating up accidentally, being in standby mode all night or charging for longer than necessary.

Here are the top ten electrical appliances in your home that guzzle up the most energy, in no particular order:

Air Conditioners

People usually run air conditioners the whole day or the whole night. Air conditioning units can cost up to RM 5-10 per night of usage. One way you can cut down on air cond usage is to only turn it on for a couple of hours and then use the fan to disperse the cool air.

Water Heaters

Water heaters consume energy due to its heating element and can consume up to 14% of the average household's energy. Turn the water heater down to a mild heating temperature to save money.

Ovens

Thankfully for Malaysians, ovens aren't necessary for daily cooking, as we don't depend on bread and pastries or pies. With that in mind, keep the oven use to weekends and special occasions.

Clothes Dryers

Heating air for drying clothes is an extremely power hungry process that can probably be avoided if you choose to sun-dry or air dry your laundry instead.

Refrigerators

The refrigerator cooling system relies on a lot of electricity to drive the coolant through the system and this is made worse by the fact that refrigerators can't be turned off easily and has to be kept on the whole day, every day in order to keep food fresh. One way of overcoming the high energy usage is to purchase an energy efficient star rated fridge.

Electrical Stoves

No doubt electrical stoves are safer and more stable compared to gas stoves, but they also guzzle electricity more easily.

Water Pump or Hot Tub

Although rare, any house that relies on a pump for their swimming pool and has a hot tub attached to their swimming pool should try and minimize usage if the electricity bill is to be reduced.
