Time is meant to be productive. However, many people don’t really have good time management and spend most of their time without doing anything solid. Others find it hard to gather the motivation needed to complete assignments, projects and tasks.
In order to succeed in your career, rather than slaving away the hours and accomplishing little, always have a good work strategy that will maximize the amount of work you produce. Here are some ways you can accomplish that:
Prioritize
Work that comes with a sooner deadline should be focused on first, as do tasks that take a longer time. Decide which tasks are more pressing and important, and then try to finish them first. If you try to do everything at once, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed and unable to cope.
Separate Work and Home
As far as possible, don’t bring work home. This way, you will be able to motivate yourself by promising yourself a full session of rest and relaxation at home. If you bring work home, and do things like answering e-mails, you will find the whole day and endless grind and slowly lose motivation. If you are in a situation where you’re on-call or work from home, make sure you set aside personal time to look forward to.
Learn to Say ‘No’
Firmly but politely turning down tasks during times when you are at your limit will allow you finish the tasks already at hand. Accepting too much work is going to make you unable to finish anything at all in the end. Establish boundaries to guide you when to say ‘no’ and when you need to g that extra mile for your work.
Don’t Accept Impossible Work
Sometimes a task is just beyond your scope of ability, or simply too much expectation. For example, if you are required to finish a project in 24 hours. If you feel really uncomfortable about the task, you have to communicate this to your boss. If you work on a freelance basis, it would be easier to let such projects go, even though it’s difficult to let go of a possible income.
Use the Correct Methods and Tools
When tackling a job, always ask yourself, is there a better and more efficient ways to do this? Are there new apps or software that can help you accomplish this sooner and better. Don’t compromise on the quality of the materials or tools you use in your work as they may slow you down or cause unnecessary problems.
Health is Important
Remember to take good care of yourself as you cannot perform well if you are sick. This means you take some time out to exercise, eat healthy, get enough sleep or rest and do relaxing leisure activities. This does not mean that you slack off from work, but keep yourself active so that you can maintain a sharp mind and healthy body. A sickly person will not produce good quality work, compared to one that is active.
