A Guide for Moving into Your New House
Steps Needed to Be Taken Before Moving In

Step 1:
Ensure your house is fully renovated one week before moving in. Check on the ventilation of the house. Never move in straight away after renovation.

Step 2:
Make sure all services are done properly. Set an appropriate time with the people helping you to move your items to the new house.

Step 3:
Before moving in, take measurements of all the rooms. This is to ensure that all the items brought over from the old house can fit in.

Step 4:
Before putting in the furniture, it is best to disinfect it once. Also, the new house should be clean. At the new house, check on the circuits, make sure there’s water and electricity.

Step 5:
It is necessary to take measures to prevent scratches on your new floor while moving the furniture in.

Step 6:
Once everything is done, make sure to keep all new documents and passes in a safe place.

Things to Take Note of While Moving into A New House

1. 10 days before moving in

If the house is still under renovation, check on the completion date. There should be a week’s time to check on the ventilation. Also, start making arrangement with people who will help you transport your things to the new house.

2. 7 days before moving in

Start measuring the size of rooms and furniture.

3. 5 days before moving in

Cleaning of furniture cabinets should begin to avoid bringing in pest to the new house. At the new house, clean it thoroughly. Check on all toilets, ceilings and walls. Remember to back up all data in your PC & laptop before transporting it to the new house.

4. 3 days before moving in

i. Connect to new phone line
ii. Terminate the old phone line
iii. Terminate electricity, gas, water accounts for the old house
iv. Inform friends and relatives about your new address
v. Remove air-conditioner, water heater and refrigerator.
vi. Keep all documents, jewelry, valuable items in a safe place or in a bank.

5. On that day

i. Cover the floor with cloth to prevent scratches.
ii. Confirm on the agreed price with the people responsible to transport your items.
iii. Inform the people handling your items to be careful with fragile items.
iv. Instruct the workers to place items in your new house.
v. Make sure all items are transported to the new place.
vi. Get the driver’s contact number, name and license plate number.
vii. Collect and keep all receipts.

6. After moving in

Things to do:
a. Clean the floor, tables, chairs, cabinets, etc.
b. Unpack your daily essentials first.
c. Organise the things you use need most.
d. Clean the rooms
e. Start decorating your new home.

Damage claims:
a. Household appliances
b. Valuables
c. Personal injuries caused by others
d. If there is a dispute over claims, consult consumer associations or departments.

Once everything is settled:
a. Obtain the necessary permits: residential permits, vehicle passes, parking area permits, dog license, etc.
b. Take the initiative to know your neighbours
