Govt Housing Schemes Benefit People - Noh
Government housing schemes have enabled people from all categories to own houses, said Urban Wellbeing, Housing, and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said the various schemes introduced by the government had allowed poor people in the B40 category right up to those earning between RM3,860 and RM8,319 to own homes.

Noh said for people in the poor category, the government had built homes through the People's Housing Programme (PPR) and the rent-to-own concept.

He said the monthly rentals were only RM124 while through the rent-to-own concept, the people could buy a RM150,000-house for only RM35,000.

"We cannot deny that the government is concerned about the people, especially over housing issues. It is not empty talk, but facts," he said at the launch of the Taman Batu Sapi PPR Housing Project by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak here today.

The project includes 180 housing units, including five for handicapped persons.

It includes shops, stalls, multi-purpose hall, sepak takraw and volley ball courts as well as playgrounds.

Noh said the government was concerned about the problems faced by the people buying houses from private companies and projects were delayed, causing them to face difficulty paying bank loans and house rentals.

He said from 2009 to the present, 262 private housing projects throughout the country were abandoned, resulting in the buyers not getting their homes.

Noh added the government had spent RM205 million in aid to people who did not get their homes due to abandoned projects.
