Penang REDHA Wants Housing Ministry To Fast-Track APDL Approval
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Penang Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA) hopes the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry will fast-track the approval of the advertising permits and developers licences (APDLs) for Penang's projects.

Its Chairman, Datuk Jerry Chan, said previously, the APDLs could previously be obtained in two weeks but now they would take months.

He said the developers could not sell their projects without the APDLs and the delays had far-reaching consequences on the economy as contractors, suppliers and workers were affected too.

Some developers submitted their applications last year but until now there are no replies from the ministry.

"Developers have followed up on applications and we had submitted many letters to the ministry but it has yet to reply," he told reporters here today.

He said many of these projects were for the development of affordable housing units and the delay meant many of the potential house owners could not move into their properties.

"If the developers cannot get the APDLs, it means that we cannot sign the agreement of sale. It also means that we will not start work and there will be delay on the project completion," he said.

He said as of today, about 30 applications were still pending and had yet to receive any reply from the ministry.
