54,406 Malaysians have relinquished citizenship since 2010
A total of 54,406 individuals had relinquished their citizenship from 2010 to Jan 31 this year.

The Home Ministry in a written reply to a question from Mohamed Hanipa Maidin (Amanah-Sepang) said there were two ways of giving up the Malaysian citizenship, namely through deprivation and by surrendering.

"Reasons given for the surrender of the citizenship is because they have chosen not to continue to be a Malaysian citizen and have acquired the citizenship of another country," said the ministry in a written reply which was distributed at the Parliament lobby, here today.

Mohamed Hanipa Maidin wanted to know how many Malaysians had relinquished their citizenship from 2010 to 2016 and the reasons given by them.
